While working from home today, I was highly motivated to complete my tasks. I even woke up an extra 10 minutes early to ensure I had enough time to brew my favorite cup of coffee with a seasonal twist – a vanilla peppermint mocha! The intention for the day was set – to be productive.
However, alas, as I clocked in and settled at my desk to check emails, I became distracted by a notification on my phone. The captivating "ding," familiar to my mind, drew me in, and I picked up my phone to check it, only to discover that one of my favorite TikTokers was live—yes, I said that right—live early in the morning! I couldn't resist this pleasant surprise, so I tapped in to join the live.

"I'll just watch this for a few minutes," my mind told me as I watched intently while sipping my cup of joe. A couple of minutes soon turned into 15 minutes, and I'm sad to report that my TikTok time increased even more. Mindless scrolling grabbed my attention—something we all know too well. As I’m reminiscing on this, it reminds me of how easily we can become distracted if we are not intentional with being present.
It's challenging for us adults to stay on task, and I can't imagine how difficult it is for children. With their developing minds, distractions can easily take hold—especially in today's digital age. But before we continue this conversation, go support the sponsor we love today, here’s a quick ad for them.

Without any further distractions (lol) let’s get right to it!
From exposure to TikTok to the convenience of having a device at their fingertips, distractions can easily captivate our children. However, I have good news for you: your child's life doesn't have to be ruled by distractions. They can practice helpful habits that empower them to take control of this issue. In fact, it's beneficial to learn mindfulness with technology at a young age, allowing these habits to develop. Better yet, with these helpful tips, you can implement them in your own life, enhancing your ability to be present!
Remember, technology is relatively new in comparison to our existence as humans. Teaching our kids how to effectively use technology can feel unfamiliar, especially if this is your first child.
Lets explore these tips together!
Schedule pre-appointed mind breaks for your child: By incorporating designated time for brain breaks, you provide your child with an opportunity to relax their mind, enhance focus, and boost productivity. For instance, when your child returns home after a lengthy day of learning at school, instead of immediately pressuring them to start homework, consider allowing them 10-15 minutes to play on their phone or device. This period enables them to relax and unwind before diving into focused tasks, clearing their minds of distractions.
