The holiday season has bid us adieu, and amidst the reflections on the year gone by, we find ourselves transitioning from the warmth of Christmas to the promising days of January. Picture this: moments when work momentarily pauses, allowing cherished quality time with our dear ones and the kids. It's a season that often feels unparalleled in its magic and joy.

In the aftermath of Christmas, my mind wanders to the joy of selecting presents for loved ones. However, beyond the excitement of gifting lies a more profound tradition: the act of giving. In many holiday movies, especially the heartwarming classics that grace our screens, we witness the essence of giving. Yet, among these tales of goodwill, there's one perennial favorite that often stands out: "The Grinch."

As the Grinch attempted to sabotage the holiday spirit, juxtaposed against the generous folks of Whoville, it's a stark reminder of choosing our path—between embracing positivity or veering towards negativity. Reflecting on that, I'm sure none of us aim to emulate the Grinch's disposition, especially now that the holidays have passed.

Before we delve deeper into cultivating a giving spirit, let's take a moment to hear from our sponsor, who helps make these conversations possible.

Exiting the 'Grinch' Zone, let's cultivate a giving spirit. We all know that giving brings us closer to our loved ones and nudges us to keep an eye out for others, rather than getting caught up in ourselves. Especially with kids, it's easy for them to get a bit wrapped up in receiving gifts during this time. If we discuss with them about the joy of giving, we can make sure these moments stay focused on sharing and caring. So, without further ado, let's explore how we can help our kids embrace a heartwarming attitude of giving!

  1. Service Project Ideas: Sit down with your child to brainstorm ideas for various service projects they would enjoy. For instance, if your child enjoys crocheting, you can create a list of potential places to donate finished items like hats and scarves together.

  2. Be a Role Model: Children often pick up behaviors they see around them regularly. So, if you show and talk about the joy of giving, your little one is likely to catch on! For example, when you get involved in a donation drive at work, buying toiletries and food, your kiddo will notice and might even join in on the giving spirit!

  3. Volunteer as a family: Make giving a priority in your household by getting the whole family involved. Sit down together and chat about the different ways you all would like to contribute and help out in your local community. This not only helps your child develop a giving attitude but also allows them to work together with others toward a common goal.
